A classic image of good against evil - an action hero and his girl, overshadowed by the towering demonic menace that threatens to engulf them all.
Drew Struzan created the much lighter US 1-sheet artwork, and while his posters are always beautiful illustrations they are not necessarily perfect images for the films they promote. Perhaps it is a symptom of Drew’s formulaic approach that his posters sometimes lack atmosphere; often they don’t capture the spirit or mood of a film as well as they might and this is one such example where a different artist delivers a more successful poster.
This UK poster from Brian Bysouth is a darker vision with a richer, more faithful depiction of the supernatural fantasy and adventure; the film ultimately becomes more satisfactory by fulfilling what the poster has promised.
Significantly, this artwork was favoured on most international theatrical posters, and is also considered more desirable among collectors.
