This was one of the first original ‘foreign’ film posters I ever bought, and among my very favourites to this day.

I saw a picture of this poster in a journal along with Krauze’s earlier artwork for Blizna while doing some student research on Kieslowski’s work in the early 90s. I decided then that somehow I had to have those posters, and one day I would find them.

I managed to track one down from a fim distributor in Poland a few years later, shortly after the advent of the internet. He was such a lovely person, and he sent me four copies instead of one - two of the B1 size, and two of the B2 size. I had to wait a little longer before I got hold of the Blizna poster, but I found that eventually too.

I’ve seen a few other copies of Amator since, mostly from high profile dealers, but none of those could ever compare to the thrill of tracking that first one down. Finding items like this was especially exciting in ‘those days’ before any of the international dealers were online - unearthing obscure items from unknown sources in distant countries, wrestling with problems like language barriers and foreign currencies - I wish poster collecting was still so much of a challenge!

I still have this poster on display in my home after all these years, and don’t plan on taking it down any time soon.
