In common with several international posters for Kanał, this features a visual reference to the sewer tunnels where the resistance fighters take refuge. The soldier emerges from the darkness into the light, a representation of hope, as his group fight for a brighter future against the oppressive darkness around them.
The title is presented in Russian, and the original Polish language. The Polish letters form the brickwork of the circular tunnel wall, darker and less prominent than the green cyrillic title, but enough to acknowledge the story’s origin; these are Polish soldiers fighting for the freedom of their country, so the inclusion of the Polish title respectfully recognises their struggle for national independence.
