This is not a well known film, it has no big name stars and nothing else to make it particularly noteworthy. Consequently, the film poster appreciation community tends to have little interest in posters like this. Forget such shortsighted dismissals; this one is a beauty.
Promising more than this unremarkable film noir delivers, the delectable title railroads the design towards its destiny. With its primary colour palette, stone litho artwork, strident lettering and sensational imagery it bears all the classic 40s hallmarks, and here these ingredients converge upon something holy. With no fuss or fanfare it just does everything right, and the whole design simply explodes off the paper. Impact indeed.
It is so successful in fact, and so resolutely typical of its time that it could almost be mistaken for a pastiche, made to honour or lampoon the genre, made several decades later.
