There is nothing in the film’s narrative to directly identify Arnie as an indestructible cyborg, until the shootout in the nightclub about 30 minutes in. This is quite a major plot revelation and should come as quite a surprise, but almost every global promo included some obvious robotic reference to spoil the fun.
We see this intimidating menace cloaked in shadow from slightly below, a simple and effective method of making the subject appear large and looming. There is no mistaken identity here; the cold monolithic figure is partially overlaid with the machine’s cybernetic endoskeleton, and LED numbers in the sunglasses as found on many international versions.
The minimal design needs nothing more than the unpleasant spectacle of peeling skin to grab our attention, but what appears to be glistening flesh and muscle revealed underneath is actually a mass of circuitry and electronic pulses; a perfect visual pun.
